Steel-Cased Piling

Steel cased piling provides a reliable and cost-effective foundation solution for challenging ground conditions, restricted access sites and developments requiring enhanced load-bearing capacity. Using driven steel casings, we deliver robust foundation systems for residential, commercial and industrial projects across the UK

Steel Cased Piling Solutions Across the UK

Westbuild Piling provides specialist steel cased piling solutions for residential, commercial and industrial projects throughout the UK. With more than 45 years of combined industry experience, we work with homeowners, developers, contractors, structural engineers and construction professionals to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective foundation systems tailored to the specific requirements of each site.

Steel cased piling is a proven foundation solution used to support structures in challenging ground conditions where traditional foundations may be unsuitable. By driving steel casings into the ground using specialist piling equipment, we create robust and reliable foundation systems for residential, commercial and industrial developments throughout the UK.

Whether you are constructing a house extension, new build property, commercial facility or industrial development, our experienced team can assess your site conditions and recommend the most suitable piling solution to support your project.

What Is Steel Cased Piling?

Steel cased piling is a specialist foundation technique that uses steel tubes or casings driven into the ground to create deep foundations capable of supporting significant structural loads. Once the required depth has been achieved, the piles are reinforced and filled with concrete to form a durable and stable foundation system.

This piling method is particularly effective where poor ground conditions, made ground, loose soils or unstable strata make traditional foundations unsuitable. Steel cased piles can penetrate difficult ground conditions while maintaining structural integrity, making them a dependable solution for a wide range of construction projects.

Steel cased piling is commonly used for residential developments, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, retaining structures and projects where long-term foundation performance is critical.

Benefits of Steel Cased Piling

Steel cased piling offers a number of advantages where challenging site conditions make conventional foundation systems unsuitable. The steel casing provides additional stability during installation, helping to maintain bore integrity and allowing piles to be installed accurately even in difficult ground conditions.

This piling method is particularly effective on sites affected by loose soils, made ground, groundwater or variable strata. Steel cased piles can achieve significant load-bearing capacity while minimising the risk of settlement, making them suitable for both domestic and commercial developments.

Driven steel cased piling is also recognised for its efficiency, reliability and adaptability. The system can be used across a wide range of project types, providing a practical foundation solution where long-term structural performance is essential.

When Is Steel Cased Piling Required?

Steel cased piling is often specified when ground investigations identify conditions that cannot adequately support traditional foundations. Weak soils, historic land disturbance, variable ground conditions and sites affected by groundwater can all require deeper foundation solutions capable of transferring structural loads to stronger bearing strata.

This piling method is also frequently used where site conditions demand a foundation system capable of achieving substantial load-bearing capacity within a relatively small footprint. Developments constructed on challenging ground often benefit from the additional stability and performance provided by steel cased piles.

Structural engineers commonly recommend steel cased piling for projects requiring enhanced structural support, particularly where foundation depths are significant or where ground conditions vary across a site.

Steel Cased Piling for Residential Projects

Steel cased piling provides an effective solution for a wide range of residential developments, including house extensions, new build homes, annexes and structural alterations. Where poor ground conditions or nearby trees affect foundation design, steel cased piles can provide the stability required to safely support the proposed structure.

Many residential projects are built on sites where traditional foundations would require extensive excavation or may not achieve the required bearing capacity. Steel cased piling offers a practical alternative that helps overcome these challenges while providing long-term structural performance.

Westbuild Piling works closely with homeowners, builders and structural engineers to deliver residential foundation solutions that meet both technical requirements and project budgets.

Steel Cased Piling for Commercial Developments

Commercial and industrial projects often demand foundation systems capable of supporting substantial structural loads while accommodating challenging site conditions. Steel cased piling is widely used within commercial construction due to its strength, versatility and ability to perform in a variety of ground conditions.

Our experienced team regularly supports projects including office developments, industrial facilities, healthcare buildings, educational establishments, retail units and mixed-use developments. Working alongside contractors, consultants and engineers, we provide piling solutions designed to meet project specifications and construction programmes.

By combining technical expertise with practical site experience, we help commercial clients achieve reliable foundation systems that support long-term structural performance.

Steel Cased Piling for Challenging Ground Conditions

One of the key benefits of steel cased piling is its ability to perform effectively in difficult ground conditions. Sites affected by loose soils, made ground, groundwater, historic excavation works or variable strata often require specialist foundation techniques to achieve the required levels of stability and support.

The steel casing helps maintain bore integrity during installation, allowing piles to be installed accurately and efficiently even where ground conditions may be unstable. This makes steel cased piling a highly reliable solution for projects where conventional foundation methods may not be suitable.

By carefully assessing site conditions and structural requirements, Westbuild Piling can design and install steel cased piling systems that provide dependable support for even the most challenging developments.

Mini Piling

Mini piling systems are ideal for a wide range of applications, particularly in restricted access locations and existing buildings, where traditional piling methods are not suitable. They provide an effective foundation solution for complex ground conditions and specialist construction requirements.

Open Bore Piling

This piling method is ideal for use in cohesive soils. The rotating auger is forced into the strata reaming out the soil as it goes. Once the required or desired depth has been met the augers are with drawn leaving an "open hole". Steel reinforcement is then placed before being filled with concrete.

Section Flight Auger

SFA piling is created by drilling sectional augers flights into the ground. The sides of the hole are supported at all times by the soil, auger or placed concrete, eliminating the need for the temporary casing or bentonite slurry. Upon reaching the required depth, sand-cement grout or concrete is pumped down the auger flight filling the pile, whilst the augers are steadily and slowly withdrawn. Once filled reinforcement is immediately placed into the pile.

RC Ground Beams

Our standard beam section is 450mm x 450mm but this is amended to suit the build and conditions on site where necessary. The advantages of cast in situ beams over precast are mainly lower cost and improved flexibility, especially if the piles are deflected out of tolerance. RC beams are ideally suited for smaller contracts or restricted sites, as there is a much shorter lead time and no need for large delivery vehicles.

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are used for holding back soil so an area can be excavated. They can be constructed with small spaces using either bored piles or sheet piles being determined by the nature and condition of the soil itself and the site conditions. Contiguous pile walls are an innovative way to build retaining walls.

RC Slabs

Similar to RC ground beams, we offer design-and-build services for RC slabs in new builds, residential extensions, or commercial projects. They can also be used in underpinning works.
